The iCloud Goes Ooops!

With the sudden excitement over the "hacking" of private pictures of celebrities from the Apple iCloud, it seems that people are coming out of the clouds and being surprised about how data processing really works. Sure enough the CLOUD is just a bunch of computers with a bunch of storage being controlled by a bunch of folks no brighter than anyone else. It's a business like any other with costs to control like any other.

Sure enough the "brilliant" gurus at Apple forgot to put simple code in their system to disable accounts after the user could not sign on a number of times. A simple human error, everyone makes them. There is no magic in the cloud. Whether the cloud is the Amazon cloud, the Google cloud, the Apple cloud, or anyone else's; your data in in the hands of hundreds of strangers working boring jobs watching for hardware glitches during long nights and weekends. Think they look around?

A new site, Safefunds-llc.com launched in the middle of September. Name sound familiar? They thought so too. Unfortunately, the registrar and hosting firm, Enom.com,  responsible for keeping the site available is unwilling to give up a few bucks and stop this misappropriation.

So far, we have received about a dozen phone calls. It seems the deal is, "a really serious buyer in Europe will pay top dollar for your Rolex" watch as long as you use this web site for "escrow" .

Sure, sign up, watch the escrow appear, send your watch to Europe, and wait for your money. Have a nice wait.

Across the Finish Line

On Sunday, July 13, 2008 Safefunds crossed a very important mark. Growth - It's a Good Thing

It's official. Safefunds will move our administrative offices to new quarters this fall. Thanks to our loyal, growing membership we need to upgrade to a new space with more room and newer communications infrastructure to support you, the Safefunds community. Near the end of September, we will pack up and head about 5 miles west of our current location to the new space being prepared for us. Thanks to our members around the world, Safefunds has doubled in size over the last year. We truly appreciate the confidence our members, both commercial users and individual users, have demonstrated in the Safefunds system. On May 31, 2008, we passed all of 2007 for both number of Safefunds transactions and value of Safefunds transactions. Additionally, our new members in May added 4 more countries to the Safefunds family. With your support, we are excited about offering additional, enhanced features through the summer. Another Record Set

We have to say thank you, thank you, thank you to our growing Safefunds membership. Your trust and support are the reason that April marked another record setting month for Safefunds. Our members completed 3 times as many deals in April of 08 as in April of 07. We added members in 4 new countries and saw membership shoot up by 16% in one month. Very importantly for us, more and more members are using our service on a regular basis for repeat transactions.

Elephants and Donkeys

The political season has found a home at Safefunds. One of our members in the hotel business had an unfortunate experience four years ago that did not happen again now that Safefunds is available. It seems that a major news organization booked half of his hotel during primary season for two weeks in 2004. After the primary was over and they moved on, it took our member 6 months to get paid from the "corporate" office. Not this year. Our wise member insisted that funds be committed using Safefunds in advance. When the bill was totaled, the Safefunds transaction was adjusted to the proper amount.
